Patching Pdf995 for Windows XP/2000
If you install Pdf995 on a Windows XP or Windows 2000 PC it appears to work fine but you can't extract text from any PDF created, either from Acrobat Reader or, more importantly, from Opus so Opus' search engine can't search PDFs.
There is a fix however. The following is from an email from Scott at Pdf 995:
The following will help ensure that text may be copied and is searchable in pdf's created on Windows 2000 and XP.
- Make sure you have installed the Pdf995 printer driver version 6.43 or later and if you are using pdfEdit - v6.22 or later. The versions can be found at the bottom of the readme files.
- Download this free Artifex Ghostscript conversion module (not distributed by
Software995):
ftp://mirror.cs.wisc.edu/pub/mirrors/ghost/AFPL/gs811/gs811w32.exe
- Open the gs811w32.exe using WinZip or Zip995 (www.zip995.com). Copy the contents of the following folders (not the folders themselves):
fonts
gs8.11/bin
gs8.11/lib
to the ..\pdf995\res\convert folder.
Note: This may be incorporated into the autosetup utility by placing the
pdf995\res\convert folder and hierarchy into the same folder containing
autosetup.exe.
Thank you,
Scott

When we did this on a Windows XP machine we found that we had to re-boot before the changes took effect.
